"The lightest word will harrow up thy soul, freeze thy young blood, and make thy two eyes, like stars, start from their spheres"

Hamlet is a story that must be told: it is Hamlet's dying request that the unknowing world hears this tale. This raw and vibrant new production by the Cambridge University European Theatre Group tells the tale afresh, using an innovative set, which incorporates a tank of water and a terrifyingly enormous puppet of Hamlet's murdered father (voiced by Sir Derek Jacobi). Propelled relentlessly to its tragic conclusion, this will be a highly visceral, highly visual and, above all, immediate Hamlet for a twenty-first century audience.

The Cambridge University European Theatre Group is a self-sufficient, entirely student-run theatrical company, which tours a Shakespeare play around Europe every December (and has been doing so for over 50 years now!), before returning for a homerun in Cambridge the following January. It is an ambitious coach-bound operation; a company of 25 or so tour with professional lighting and sound equipment, costumes and set, enabling us to put on a show absolutely anywhere. Each year we typically visit twelve venues - ranging from professional theatres to schools and universities - and we have performed in France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, Luxembourg, Holland, The Czech Republic, Italy and Hungary. Over time, ETG has developed a reputation at home and abroad for producing exciting, innovative and professional interpretations of classic texts, attracting the most ambitious actors, technicians and creative forces from within the university.
